Y’all may or may not know, but I am applying for two NSF grants next month. One of these grants is the GRFP- something most PhD students should try to apply for at least once. You basically get three shots to apply- I applied once, got rejected, missed my second one (with good reason) and now am on my last try.
If this one gets funded it basically means I get $32,000/year to go to grad school, plus tuition is covered and I get access to NSF’s supercomputers (among other things).
But the one I am more excited about is the EAPSI- the East Asia and Pacific Summer Institute grant. If THIS one gets funded, I get $5,000 dollars distributed between June and August next summer…as well as an (almost) all expenses-paid trip to Japan to perform research in the laboratory of someone there.
We basically sent a rough draft of my proposal to the host laboratory to make sure we aren’t retreading any of the same ground he has already covered, then I am going to write this sucker up for the NSF.
Wish me luck you guys. I want to go to Japannnnn
