Mike Libby, artist and RISD alumni, creates breathtaking works of art from taxidermied insects he collects from all over the globe. His fascination began when he found an intact dead beetle and began to ponder over its inner workings - much like a small mechanical device, he thought. He took to incorporating watch parts into his new friend and his signature style was born. His work is for sale, albeit expensive, and his collection can be viewed on his website.
I highly recommend checking out his work. His is definitely one of my new favorite websites.
This is really great, and if pinning insects counts as “taxidermy” then I am the next chuck testa
EDIT: although, his taxonomy is off…at least for Coleoptera. He has Eupatorus Gracilicornis listed under Dynastidae, which was folded into Scarabaeidae a few years ago under the sub-family Dynastinae. Still cool though! Also it looks like he has an un-identified Dynastidae that I would bet money is Trypoxylus dichotomus.
steampunk insects. or something.
Wow, these are hella cool.
